PTSD
is an anxiety related condition that is triggered by being exposed to some
unusual, terrifying and traumatic experience that has challenged and contradicted
the fundamental beliefs that a person holds. Events that can lead to PTSD may
include witnessing an armed robbery, being involved in assault, fighting, war
or terrorism, a road traffic accident or train and plane crashes or being
physically or sexually abused. People with PTSD can experience intense anxiety,
nightmares and flashbacks of the event. It can lead to a reduced quality of
life and interfere with sleep and concentration. Psychological therapy can help
people free themselves from PTSD.
