Dr. Michael Sinclair

Michael is a Consultant Chartered, Practitioner Psychologist Registered with the Health Professions Council. He is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, a Foundation Member of the British Psychological Society's Register of Psychologists Specialising in Psychotherapy and a Chartered Scientist registered with the Science Council. He is a Principle Member of the Association of Business Psychologists, a Founder Member of the Society of Coaching Psychologists and an International Member of the American Psychological Association. He is a member of the British Psychological Society's Division of Clinical, Counselling and Health Psychology, its Special Group in Coaching Psychology and its Psychotherapy Section.

He has gained several years' clinical experience treating individuals, couples, families and groups experiencing a wide range of emotional difficulties and more severe mental health presentations both within the National Health Service and the private sector. He is experienced as a clinical supervisor and continues to be involved in the training and supervision of other psychologists and psychotherapists.

He has held positions as a psychologist within schools, specialist mental health clinics and GP's surgeries and currently holds practising privileges at the Priory Hospital. He fulfilled the role of Lead Specialist Psychologist in HIV/HCV co-infection at The Royal Free Hospital, where he was responsible for the development and implementation of psychological assessments for patients starting invasive treatment before establishing his private practice. He is now based mainly in the City of London and Harley Street providing psychological services and treatment of the highest quality to top executives and 'blue chip' organisations.

He has an interest and developed speciality in brief psychotherapy and in treating affective disorders including: depression, anxiety, phobia, anger, post traumatic stress disorder, somatic complaints, chronic pain, obsessive compulsive disorder, depersonalisation, eating disorder, stress, low self esteem, body image problems, chronic fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, relationship distress, emotional distress related to illness and personality disorder.

He is a skilled practitioner utilising an integrative treatment approach based on cognitive behavioural (CBT), systemic, psychodynamic and person centred paradigms within a time-limited and focussed framework.

He has held various positions as specialist trainer and lecturer at The Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, Roche Pharmaceuticals and City University. He has lectured in Aviation Psychology, Cultural Transition and Change, Psychology and Management Skills, Interviewing, Selection and Recruitment, Stress Management and Psychological Implications of Medical Treatments. His research interests include: mental health in the corporate work place, the psychological impact of illness on the individual and family and focused, brief psychological therapy.

He has published academic papers in eminent peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented at both national and international conferences. He consults regularly to the media as an expert on a variety of psychological topics and is a regular expert commentator on BBC Breakfast and BBC News. He is currently writing a book on mental health in the corporate workplace. Michael is a skilled clinician, researcher and trainer.
